Apostle J

About Apostle J

Apostle J was born in the City of Flint on August 25th 1984. He was raised in a Christian home, and his father was a pastor, and his mother was a housewife. Though it sounds like the perfect situation.. it was very far from that. What appeared to be loving on the surface, there was another story growing up. He had a very difficult childhood, and many obstacles to overcome in home, as well as outside of the home. Despite Apostle J's many struggles growing up, listen to what he says. " You know, I grew up in a strict household, there was certain lines you didnt cross, or you were dealt with.. and I don't need to get into detail, but it kept me in line, and kept me out of the world.. so I can thank God for that. " His parents seperated in 1996..and he began to pludge into a deep depression as an early teen.. cutting himself off from family, and friends, he buried himself into music.. listening to old hits by Ray Charles, B.B. King, and many other great musicians, affliated with Jazz and Blues. He says in his own words. " I had developed a love for old school music.. especially jazz and the blues.. cuz of the pain I was feeling as a child.. that music was a comfort to me, to see how others dealt with their own pain and struggles. " Eventually he accepted Christ at the age of 14.. Feb. 18th 1999...but little did he know that what awaited him was something greater in his life. In late 2002.. he developed the love for hip-hop, and began writing some of his own material. He says " When I was 14.. God told me that I would lead millions of people one day, and when I was about 16.. a prophet told me that I would minister to people on the streets, and that my ministry would be unconventional... I never understood it at the time, until I realize my ability to rap, and use it to God's glory, and watching just how many souls it touches. " From 2002 to our present time.. Apostle J has been developing as an artist, but most important.. as a son of God. He leaves us with these last words " I'm focused on reaching a generation that feels like they have no hope..and that there is no alternative to all the other music in the world.. I'm here to prove to the unbelievers, that Christ can reign anywhere..even through rap..and preach the gospel to those who need it, and salvation be the result, and bring them over into discipleship.
